Montessori Inspired
Montessori teachings instill an endless curiosity and independence in young learners. Rose & Buds has elements of Montessori in its arrangement, learning materials, calm environment, and independent project time. The teacher’s role is to observe and to guide and to ask questions. Children learn best from one another and Rose & Buds follows Maria Montessori’s “planes of development” and recognizes the benefits of a mixed-age classroom.
Reggio Emilia Approach
Reggio-Emilia approach is child-centered, with an emphasis on the learning environment, documentation, and play. Play in early childhood builds confidence and adaptability, and is a central part of neurological growth and development. Theatrical and make-believe play, in all forms and languages, creates an outlet for imagination, creative energy, and cooperation skills to develop. In turn, this develops social skills and helps form peer relationships.
Emergent Curriculum
An emergent curriculum places an emphasis on students’ opinions and involvement in curriculum development and classroom objectives. The learning goals are inspired by the children’s interests. Themes and concepts are morphed into new schema depending on what the children pick up on each day. Inspiration can come from the seasons, the weather, plants, animals, foods, structures, artworks, or the characters and places that materialize through dramatic play. Additionally, physical movement is encouraged throughout the school day through music, yoga, and dance.
Small Group Ratio
The teacher/child ratio is extremely valuable to your child’s ability to learn. The smaller the teacher/child ratio, the more space and attention can be provided to individualized needs. More learning happens, more playing happens, and more fun is had by all. R&B has two teachers for a maximum capacity of six children.
The Great Outdoors
The opportunity to play outside, with as little restriction as is safe, will occur daily, regardless of weather. Outdoor play is critical to social emotional growth and your child’s gross motor skills. We are next door to the Eastwoods Neighborhood Park, with two playgrounds, swings, a large splash pad, and large grassy areas for endless exploration and discovery.
Compassion & Care
Early childhood education is the foundation for your child’s understanding of morality, ethics, and what is right and wrong. It’s where children start to share and understand differences. Children learn how to treat each other and how they want to be treated. The curriculum, conversations, and class materials promote inclusion, and community. Representations of all people are critical to achieving self-identification, comfort, and empowerment. At Rose & Buds, we create a safe place to encourage and understand each and every child individually and fully. Issues of humanity are not to be ignored but recognized. Participation in the community and helping others in need is a part of our philosophy and teachings.
“Participation generates and informs the feelings and culture of solidarity, responsibility and inclusion, and produces change and new cultures.” — Reggio Emilia Approach
